Check Security
Check fraud continues to be a problem in the U.S. today. Criminals continue to find new and unique ways to manipulate checks in order to steal money from unsuspecting victims. Find out how we keep your account safe and ways you can protect yourself from check fraud.
How Cadence Bank protects your account from check fraud:
Online and Mobile Banking
Using online and mobile banking, you can review transactions made on your account. Within online banking, you can also look at cleared check images (front and back) and set up account alerts to know when a check has cleared.
Bill Pay
Using Bill Pay, you can issue checks or send payments electronically to whomever you need to pay.
Stop Payments
You can place a stop payment on any check you write before it’s cleared.
Password Strength
Use strong passwords and change them often. Don’t get in a habit of using the same username and password for everyday login use.
Mobile Wallet
You can set up most of your Cadence Bank accounts on your mobile wallet app of choice (Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Masterpass), adding another layer of security when making in-person, in-app or online transactions.
Check Image Match
Cadence Bank’s checks have Image Match, which allows the bank to verify that the check’s front and back side images are from the same document during mobile deposits, minimizing endorsement forgeries.
How you can protect yourself from check fraud:
- Set up banking alerts
Use online banking to set up alerts to review cleared checks, let you know when your account balance falls below a certain limit, or when transactions clear your account. - Set up direct deposit
Set up direct deposit to your account so you don’t have to worry about paychecks getting lost or stolen in the mail. - Utilize Bill Pay or ACH payments
Pay bills automatically using Bill Pay or ACH payment. That way, you’ll always pay on time, avoid late fees, and eliminate using checks that may be susceptible to mail fraud. - Destroy canceled checks
Unless you need to keep canceled checks for tax or other legal purposes, destroy them as soon as possible. - Review your transactions
Review your check transactions, made either online or using your account statement, to make sure your check amounts match. - Have secure storage
Store your checks, deposit slips, account statements and canceled checks in a secure and locked location.
ATM Safety
ATM Safety
ATMs are a convenient way to get cash and make deposits; however, they can pose a safety hazard if criminals use them to steal from unsuspecting victims. Discover how Cadence Bank protects you when using an ATM and how you can protect yourself as well.

Never write it down. Also, guard the keypad when entering your PIN so no one can see it. - Beware of suspicious behavior
If you notice anything suspicious while using the ATM, cancel your transaction and leave immediately. Report your concerns to the police and/or ATM owner. - Take your ATM receipt with you
Your receipt may contain personal information that might be helpful to criminals. - Lock your car doors and roll up all windows not in use
When using a drive-thru ATM, lock your car doors and roll up all windows not in use. If you walk up to the ATM, don't leave your car running or unlocked. - Don't store important items in your car
Never leave your ATM, debit or credit cards in your car’s glove compartment. - Don't allow strangers in indoor ATM locations with you
When using an indoor ATM that requires your card for access, don’t let others you don’t know in with you. - Inspect the ATM for skimmers
Pay particular attention to how the ATM card reader looks and feels. If the card reader is loose, don’t use the ATM.
